Sound

During the sound production stages I researched industrial sound composition, using the following examples, which helped me to compose my own ideas…

Bauhaus

For this project the sound was crucial, in order to add unsettling elements to the film and influence the viewer emotions. During the day of the shoot I used a Zoom H4N Digital Recorder to recorded separate sounds. To begin with I gathered an organic soundtrack, which could later be used for the sound of the waves and footsteps. I then gathered the sounds of the crew discussing shot types, locations, camera set ups and directing the cast, which were later layered and distorted to accompany the opening sequence of the piece.

During post-production we decided to incorporate music from local artists. After much research, we found a local band - Have A Nice Life, who agreed to the use of one of their tracks, which I later edited and manipulated using Logic, in order to create a new version of their original piece, which better accompanied the visuals.

I began by isolating the beginning of the track, bringing up the vocals and adding some of the captured audio from the shoot. The addition of filters, and layering the original captured audio allowed me to create a sense of place, which placed the audio into context within the rest of the film.
